Haitian government may take over private land to relocate homeless

Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive said that the Haitian government will take ownership of private land to relocate affected temporarily homeless.
In an interview with the Associated Press (AP) Jean-Max Bellerive said that the government does not have enough land and must take ownership of private ones. Haitian law allows, as long as owners receive adequate compensation.

Who is Jean Max Bellerive?

Prime Minister of Haiti

Married and a father of two girls, Bellerive was born in Port-au-Prince in 1958. As the son of a prominent doctor, he left Haiti at a very young age to study in Switzerland, France, and Belgium. With a degree in Political Science and International Relations, Bellerive returned to Haiti in 1986, just before the overthrow of Jean-Claude Duvalier.

Current Haitian President René Préval, in following the orders of a senate resolution, nominated Bellerive on October 30, 2009, to replace former Prime Minister Michèle Pierre-Louis. A day before the nomination, on October 29, 2009, 18 senators of a 29-member senate voted to dismiss Pierre-Louis on charges that she was poorly performing in leading Haiti's economic recovery efforts.
